You’re Not Imagining It

When your mind won’t stop bracing for what’s next

Maybe it’s the racing mind at 3am, rehearsing conversations that haven’t happened and replaying ones that have. Maybe it’s a body that won’t power down — the tight chest, the clenched jaw, the stomach that keeps score of every stressor. Maybe you’ve quietly started avoiding things you used to enjoy because the dread of them arrives days early.

And maybe, from the outside, no one can tell. Plenty of the people we treat have what gets called “high-functioning” anxiety: the job gets done, the family gets fed, and the constant internal alarm stays invisible to everyone but you. That invisibility doesn’t make it less real, and it doesn’t mean you have to keep white-knuckling it. Generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and social anxiety can all improve with treatment, and treatment starts with someone actually listening to what it’s like to be you.

It may be time to reach out if…

  • Persistent worry feels hard or impossible to control
  • Physical symptoms show up: tight chest, racing heart, stomach trouble, muscle tension
  • Sleep is hard to get or hard to keep
  • You feel irritable or permanently on edge
  • Avoidance is quietly shrinking your life
  • You’ve had panic attacks, or live in fear of the next one

A note from Dr. Wagner

“Anxiety may come as the constant ‘what if?’ or as the constant feeling of unease that leaves you trying to contain what is out of your control. This burden can be overwhelming, exhausting, or even demoralizing. Thankfully, there are many tools, both behavioral and pharmacological, that can help ease this burden rooted in uncertainty.”

Your Options

Evidence-based paths out of constant worry

Anxiety responds well to treatment, and the right plan is built around your diagnosis, your history, and your preferences.

Medication Management

SSRIs, SNRIs, and non-habit-forming options prescribed carefully and collaboratively: starting low, adjusting thoughtfully, and never rushing you.

How we prescribe

Therapy, Coordinated

Evidence-based approaches like CBT teach your mind and body a different response to worry, panic, and avoidance. We refer you to trusted therapists for this work and coordinate care closely with them.

Advanced Options

When anxiety travels with depression that hasn’t responded to medication, TMS may be worth discussing. TMS is FDA-cleared for depression, and anxious depression often improves alongside.

About TMS

Not sure where to start?

You don’t have to arrive with a plan; that’s our job. During a comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Wagner sorts out what kind of anxiety you’re dealing with, whether depression, ADHD, or something else is tangled up in it, and whether medication here, a referral for therapy, or both best fit your life.

What to Expect

From first call to a quieter mind

  1. 1

    Free consultation

A low-pressure conversation about what anxiety looks like in your life and what help could look like. We check your insurance benefits before you commit to anything.

  2. 2

    Comprehensive evaluation

A 90-minute appointment with Dr. Wagner covering your history, health, and goals, sorting generalized anxiety from panic, social anxiety, and look-alike conditions, and ending in a clear plan.

  3. 3

    Treatment, measured honestly

Whether your plan involves medication here, care with an existing or referred therapist, or both, we track your symptoms with validated scales so progress is visible, and the plan adapts if it isn’t.

  4. 4

    Staying well

The goal is a life that keeps expanding instead of shrinking. We build relapse-prevention skills and taper support at your pace.

Common Questions

Anxiety treatment FAQs

Can anxiety be treated without medication?

Yes. Evidence-based psychotherapy, especially cognitive behavioral therapy, is a first-line treatment for anxiety disorders on its own. Fortifying Wellness provides psychiatric evaluation and medication management; when therapy is part of the plan, we refer you to trusted therapists and coordinate care with them.

How long until treatment starts working?

It varies. Skills learned with a therapist can start helping within the first few sessions, while medications like SSRIs and SNRIs typically take four to six weeks at an effective dose to show their full benefit. At Fortifying Wellness, we track symptoms during your medical visits so progress is clear and we can adjust early if something isn’t working.

Do you treat panic attacks?

Yes. Panic disorder is treatable. Treatment often combines education about what panic is, therapy that reduces fear of the attacks themselves, and, when appropriate, medication. Results and timing vary from person to person.

Is telehealth available?

Yes. Evaluations and medication follow-ups can be done by secure video for patients anywhere in Colorado. If therapy is part of your plan, we can refer you to an outside therapist who offers telehealth and coordinate care with them.

What if I also have depression?

That’s extremely common: anxiety and depression frequently occur together, and treating one while ignoring the other rarely works well. Our evaluation looks at the full picture, and many first-line treatments help both conditions at once. When depression hasn’t responded to medication, we also offer advanced options like TMS.
